GM's Message

What a year 2020 is turning out to be? Under normal circumstances we would update our website visitors about our performance in the preceding year, development and business plans going forward, growth expectations and the strategies to meet the challenges ahead.

However, everything has now turned topsy-turvy as a result of the Corona virus or otherwise known as Covid-19 which has affected every nook and cranny the world over inflicting huge damage, pain and suffering. It poses a grave threat to human lifes and is spreading at an alarming rate without recognising borders. Many nations are experiencing major challenges to their health care systems, being overwhelmed by the sheer number of cases which require hospitalisation and intensive care. Many have resorted to closing their borders and imposing unprecedented lockdowns in a move to stop the spread of the disease.

Inevitably, this has resulted in industries and other economic activities grinding to a halt or at best limited to only essential goods and services to meet day to day needs. Global trade has begun to dwindle as unemployment is on the rise with governments battling the crisis at several fronts, health being the immediate priority.

Ports and Shipping being the nexus of trade flow are immensely affected with the decline of cargo volumes compounded by severe restrictions on shipping movements.
Port Klang is no exception to this problem as Malaysia battles to control the disease. However as the nation’s premier port, we owe it to our people to continue operating to ensure essential supplies flow through uninterrupted. Our business continuity plan has enabled the port to function during these difficult circumstances but at the same time, government directives and extreme precautions are strictly observed to ensure the health and well-being of our workforce, customers and general public are not  compromised. It may take several weeks or even months before we see any indications of success in containing this disease.

Thereafter, it will be another long process to revive the economy and for trade to once again flow without restrictions. We are confident that if we all work together, this will not be an impossible task to achieve. We would like to thank our partners and customers for their patience and understanding. In these difficult times we recognise the hardship that many port users are experiencing and we will do everything we can to support them.

Last but not least we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to medical personnel all over the world tirelessly working to treat victims and save lives despite the adverse conditions they have to work in. We salute you all for your dedication and sacrifices.

Thank you.
