The IAPH 2022 World Ports Conference kicked off on 16 May 2022 at the Waterfront Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia and officiated by the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. The conference brings together leading port stakeholders to #ClosetheGaps in global seaport competitiveness and developing an agenda to enhance the performance of the world's major port regions.
During the welcome session, the President of IAPH and General Manager of Port Klang Authority, Capt. K. Subramaniam, Kitack Lim, Secretary General of International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Robin Silvester, President and CEO of Vancouver Fraser Port Authority delivered their welcome remarks.
Over 400 participants from around the world attended the conference in person for the first time in over three years. The Malaysian delegation was headed by YBhg. Datuk Isham Ishak, Secretary General of Ministry of Transport and also attended by YBhg. Datuk Chong Sin Woon, Chairman of Port Klang Authority, YBhg. Datuk Koh Chin Han, Chairman of Malacca Port Authority, YBhg. Dato’ Azman Shah, CEO of Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, YBhg. Datuk IR. Lawrence Low, Chairman PKFZ, representatives from Penang Port Authority, Johor Port Authority and Bintulu Port Authority.
Northport (Malaysia) Bhd received the prestigious Global Award during the IAPH World Ports Conference's formal gala dinner on May 17. Among the six winners, Northport Malaysia was announced as the Award recipient for Health, Safety and Security (HSE) for its journey towards HSE excellence. It is the first award for a Malaysian port since the World Ports Sustainability Program began in 2018 and coincides with the Presidency of IAPH by Capt. K. Subramaniam who is the General Manager of Port Klang Authority, Malaysia.
